4 Thanksgiving Travel Destinations in the U.S. for 2026

Thanksgiving is supposed to be about spending time together.

Somehow, it often turns into grocery shopping, coordinating arrival times, cooking for hours, and cleaning up afterward.

Traveling for Thanksgiving offers another option. You can keep the family time and holiday meal while letting someone else handle the cooking. A domestic getaway also gives you a real change of scenery without adding passports or an international itinerary to an already busy travel week.

The key is choosing a destination that works for everyone coming. Some families want activities and room to spread out. Others would prefer a quiet countryside retreat, warm weather or a cabin in the mountains.

These four Thanksgiving travel destinations offer very different versions of the holiday, all without leaving the United States.

Carmel Valley Ranch in Northern California

For families who want comfortable California weather and plenty to do, Carmel Valley Ranch is a strong choice. The resort sits on 500 acres in Carmel Valley, near the Monterey Peninsula and Carmel-by-the-Sea.

This property works well when everyone has a different idea of what vacation should look like. The resort offers four saltwater pools, a splash pad, an 18-hole golf course and a changing schedule of activities. Its all-suite accommodations provide more space than a standard hotel room, which can make a big difference when families are traveling together.

You can spend the morning walking the trails, book time at the spa or join one of the resort’s scheduled experiences. In the evening, everyone can meet back up for dinner without one family member spending the entire day in the kitchen.

Best for: Families with children, multigenerational trips and travelers who want plenty to do without leaving the resort.

Good to know: Thanksgiving dining and seasonal programming can change each year. I’ll confirm the current options before you book.

Wildflower Farms in the Hudson Valley

Wildflower Farms, Auberge Collection, offers a quieter Thanksgiving in New York’s Hudson Valley. Located about two hours from New York City, it feels removed from the city without requiring a complicated travel day.

The resort has 65 cabins, cottages and suites set among meadows and woodland. The property is designed around its natural surroundings, with wellness experiences and outdoor activities that encourage guests to slow down.

Days here can include a guided nature walk, time at the spa or simply settling into your cottage with a view. The resort’s restaurant, Clay, focuses on seasonal cooking and sources ingredients from the property and nearby farms.

Wildflower Farms is a good fit for travelers who want Thanksgiving to feel peaceful, private and decidedly unhurried.

Best for: Couples, adult families and travelers looking for a quiet countryside retreat.

Good to know: This is a better match for a slower holiday than a packed family itinerary. I can help you determine whether the available room layouts and activities work for the people traveling with you.

Isla Bella Beach Resort in the Florida Keys

If your ideal Thanksgiving involves palm trees rather than cold weather, consider Isla Bella Beach Resort in Marathon, Florida.

The resort occupies 24 waterfront acres in the Florida Keys, approximately an hour from Key West. Every guest room and suite has a private outdoor terrace with an ocean view, so the setting is very much part of the experience.

The property has five pools, a beach bar and access to activities such as fishing, biking and diving. Families can stay busy, but the resort also makes it very easy to spend the afternoon beside the water doing absolutely nothing. That is a perfectly valid holiday activity.

Isla Bella offers the feel of an island vacation without requiring international travel, making it an appealing option for families who want to trade November weather for a few days in the sun.

Best for: Warm-weather travelers, families and anyone who would rather spend Thanksgiving near the water.

Good to know: Holiday dining, activities and availability should be confirmed early. The Florida Keys are popular during holiday weekends.

One and Only Moonlight Basin in Montana

For a Thanksgiving built around mountain views and time outdoors, One and Only Moonlight Basin offers a completely different setting.

Located in Big Sky, Montana, the resort is surrounded by mountains, meadows and evergreen forest. Accommodations include rooms, suites, standalone cabins and larger private homes, giving families several options depending on how much space and privacy they need.

The cabins feature private outdoor decks, hot tubs and easy access to the surrounding landscape. Larger private homes can accommodate extended families while providing shared living areas and kitchens.

By late November, available experiences may include skiing, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and other winter activities, depending on seasonal conditions. This is the option for travelers who want Thanksgiving to feel like a proper mountain escape, preferably with a fireplace involved.

Best for: Families and travelers looking for mountain scenery, privacy and outdoor activities.

Good to know: Weather can affect transportation and seasonal activities in Big Sky. I can help arrange the right accommodations and build enough flexibility into the itinerary.

When Should You Book Thanksgiving Travel?

Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. Flights with reasonable schedules, larger rooms, connecting accommodations and popular resorts can become limited well before November.

For Thanksgiving 2026, I recommend starting the planning process as early as possible, especially if you are traveling with children or need multiple rooms. Beginning early also gives us more time to compare destinations, check current offers and coordinate everyone’s travel plans.

Before choosing a resort, consider:

  • Who is coming and where everyone is traveling from

  • Whether you need connecting rooms, a suite, cabin or private home

  • How much scheduled activity your family actually wants

  • Whether a traditional Thanksgiving dinner is important

  • How much time everyone can realistically spend traveling

You do not need to have every answer before reaching out. A general idea of who is coming, what kind of setting you want and what you hope to spend is enough to begin.
